This opens with a blast of evergreen needles, reminiscent to my Pacific-Northwest-born nose of a walk on a mountain slope through a mixed cedar and fir forest on a lightly drizzling Autumn morning. There is an earthy freshness, as if the moss-covered loam underfoot is releasing wafts of aroma as footsteps disturb it. A hint of comfortable musky sweetness underlies all of this, like a fuzzy sweater that has been stored with a vanillic sachet in an old wooden chest, thrown on against the chill of the morning before setting out. The sweater is a little damp and you are a little sweaty, but the combination of all the smells is somehow both invigorating and comforting.
